Year 7 ‘Teach the Teacher’ Day

27th April 2023

To promote learners taking ownership of their learning, developing independence, and building their confidence, the Year 7s enthusiastically participated in a ‘Teach the Teacher’ day on Thursday 27th April. They rose up to the challenge by selecting their topics of choice, researching them and teaching their teachers and peers with great confidence. There were so many amazing presentations within a varied range of topics, a few of which included:

  • An outstanding presentation from Abel ( 7k) on the history of trade.
  • Najum (7S) faced her fears of speaking in front of an audience and delivered an excellent presentation on how to solve algebra equations.
  • Cian and Emmanuel showcased a deep understanding of how the game of rugby is played.
  • Mulki and Lena gave an enlightening lesson on the importance of mental health.

Then on Friday 28th April, the Year 7s had an inter- class ‘Dragon's Den’ challenge, where they were tasked to present an exciting business idea. Well done to 7J who emerged winners, with Sebastian, Faisal, Eden and Marius proposing to produce what they termed ‘Cracker Cutlery’- an environmentally friendly cutlery set made out of cassava starch. The cassava starts off very hard and can cut through steak, thereafter dissolving into liquid. Each package sold would have a root inside it, for the buyer to be able to plant their own, and 10% of their earnings would go to cancer research. Most interesting was the product’s marketing slogan 'Why wash it? Just eat it!' .

We are extremely proud of our pupils’ creativity, and look forward to seeing them continue to work brilliantly in teams and as individuals.
