28th November 2022
This term, Year 7s have been reading a book titled ‘The Refugee Boy' by Benjamin Zephaniah, which details the life of a boy who became a refugee during World War II. He endured many hardships while in a camp, from living in close quarters with thousands of others, creating an environment with poor sanitation, to having limited food, water and other necessities he previously enjoyed in plenty.
The refugee boy’s dire predicament greatly touched the Year 7s, so much so that they decided to do something to help disadvantaged children within our community. They organised a bake sale on November 28th, in which over Kshs 50,000, books and other stationery items were raised, and will be donated to Vida Riruta Shade Orphanage in Riruta.
These kinds of acts are what the Braeburn Circles hope to instill in our pupils, to be responsible citizens that not only care about the communities in which they live in, but also take initiative to improve the livelihoods in those communities, however small or big the gesture is.
