Year 8 Examine the Media’s Role

16th November 2022

In the second half of Term 1, Year 8 pupils immersed themselves in examining the role of the media, with a focus on its ability to spread propaganda and persuade the masses. Later on, they had a chance to create their own propaganda posters using their experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic as inspiration.

This topic is especially close to our Year 8s because many of them are beginning to access media independently, social media being a considerable share of that access. In a world where anyone and everyone can share their thoughts, ideas and values across the world with no filter, it is imperative that we equip our pupils with the skills to reflect on information they come across through various media, and to discern how it affects them as individuals, as a community, and more importantly, the effect their responses may have.
