Year 8’s Science Fayre Blows Us Away!

19th June 2025

On Thursday June 19th, Year 8 held their annual Science Fayre in the Braeburn School sports hall, and it was amazing! The hall was packed with creative and cool science projects that covered everything from solving environmental problems to fun experiments in biology, chemistry and physics.

Over 60 pupils took part, and it was clear how much hard work and effort they had put in. It was also a great chance for them to show off their love for science to friends, teachers and even parents. We (Year 7) were so impressed by the way they explained their ideas and how confidently they spoke. Mrs. Miriti, the Head of Science, said, “Honestly, I am happy that most pupils got something going on and that they thought outside the box to solve real-life problems.”

Some of the standout projects included “Magnet Football” by Marco, Ryan and Nolawi, and “The Five Senses” by Rameen, Hanaan and Nourin. Other cool ones were “Oranges vs Orange” by Hannah and Inaya, “Is AI More Attractive Than Real Life” by Amina, and “Glow Box” by Aila and Olivia. One of the funniest moments was during Arth’s quote hunt when a pupil said, “This science fayre is a way for us to express our interest in science while having an espresso”—and guess what, he really did have espresso in his bottle!

The next day, Mrs. Birungi, a scientist, and parent at our school, came in to help the Year 8s come up with fun and creative ideas. Overall, the Science Fayre was a huge success, and we hope next year’s will be just as exciting — if not better!
