Year 9 Assembly – Focus on Options

12th February 2024

On Tuesday 6th February, Year 9 attended taster lessons of the IGCSE and BTEC subjects which we have not studied before. The IGCSE subjects were: Sociology, Business Studies, Economics, Physical Education and the BTEC subjects included Travel and Tourism, Business, Art and Design and Sports. The teachers gave us an overview of what we would be learning in each subject. For example, Mr Wafula talked to us about what Sociology is and how it helps you better understand the world, society and yourself.

The session was useful since it helped me and my peers narrow down our option choices by finding out more about the new BTEC and IGCSE programmes available to us.

“I enjoyed the taster day as it helped me feel more comfortable taking subjects I had not taken previously, as well as enabling me to finalise my decisions on certain subjects that I wasn’t 100% sure about.” Stella 9S

“I learnt a lot from these subjects, for example, Economics. I wasn't sure what it was about, like how the money goes round but actually I found out it is also about how resources are distributed.” Alfred 9S

I think we are feeling excited about choosing our options and I am looking forward to getting started in Term 3 as it will help me focus on what I want to go on to study in the future.
