This week in drama, our Year 9 students at Braeburn have embarked on a unique exploration from an adaptation of Mark Haddon's "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time." Taking inspiration from renowned theatre practitioners, Frantic Assembly, our budding actors are unravelling the art of using movement to convey narratives in innovative ways.
Frantic Assembly's influence on our drama curriculum brings a fresh perspective, emphasising the power of physical theatre to push the boundaries of storytelling. The students are learning to transcend the limitations of words, discovering that movement can be a potent language in itself. By incorporating dynamic physicality into their performances, they aim to unearth new dimensions in the narrative, revealing emotions and nuances that might remain hidden in conventional approaches.
“The Curious Incident…” provides a perfect canvas for this exploration, as the intricacies of Christopher Boone's unique perspective come to life through the expressive language of the body. The students are actively engaging with the challenges of conveying the protagonist's internal world through movement, demonstrating how physical theatre can be a transformative tool in pushing the narrative forward.
As our young performers embrace the principles of Frantic Assembly, they are not just mastering the art of physical theatre but are also gaining a deeper understanding of how movement can be a storyteller in its own right.

Every Tuesday, after the long hours of school finish, at 3:30pm, eager students gather in C4; all working hard on creating innovative and unique projects, whilst basing their work off their chosen group, ranging from medicine to astronomy, engineering to biology, ready to compete with the other club members for a long awaited prize. This is Braeburn school’s very own… STEM Club.
Beyond developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and creative abilities, the STEM Club presents an exclusive opportunity for students to establish connections with similarly inclined peers who harbour mutual interests. This transformative experience turns the learning process into an enjoyable and captivating journey, dispelling prevalent misconceptions surrounding STEM disciplines. Originating from the conviction that STEM subjects are frequently misconstrued, the club strives to debunk the idea that opting for STEM necessitates an uncompromising, all-encompassing commitment.
We chose to create this club because we believe that STEM is a topic that is greatly misunderstood. Just days ago, as we were foraging for members, not many people seemed to understand what STEM was. STEM is essentially an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. The study of these subjects is bountiful in almost every field of study. Want to be an astrophysicist? STEM. Want to be a doctor, nurse or surgeon? STEM. Want to work with AI, computers and such? STEM. It's not just a topic for critical thinking, but it enables the mind to create and imagine all kinds of things- with STEM, there is no such thing as limits!
Within the STEM club, various groups, such as technology, astronomy, and medicine, offer students the autonomy to choose projects and collaborate with anyone they wish. As the term unfolds, members embark on a rewarding journey, culminating in project presentations where they showcase their achievements and compete for recognition and prizes. The STEM club at Braeburn School is not just a club; it's a community that empowers students to explore the endless possibilities within the fascinating world of STEM.
STEM club is an amazing opportunity and a fun way to create something meaningful with your friends. We hope you can join us on this remarkable journey!
