Year 9 Residential Trip 2024

6th December 2024

The Year 9 Taita trip 2024 was an enriching experience which ensured bonding and team-building amongst students, while educating them about Kenya’s involvement in World War I. It provided an amazing opportunity for students to engage with history at the WW1 Museum, enhancing their understanding of significant historical events.

At Kasigau Base Camp, students participated in various camping activities that were vital in building resilience and teamwork. Key activities included:

  • Tent making in which students learned essential skills in setting up tents, which taught them practical survival skills and encouraged collaboration as they worked together to create their living spaces.
  • Preparing their own meals was another critical aspect of the trip. This activity required planning, cooperation, and resourcefulness, allowing students to take ownership of their decisions and mistakes.
  • Hiking Mt. Kasigau offered physical challenges that promoted endurance and teamwork. These experiences were not only physically demanding but also served as opportunities for students to bond over shared challenges and achievements.
  • The team-building exercises facilitated strong connections among peers, contributing to a cohesive year group dynamic.

In summary, the Year 9 Taita trip was a worthwhile experience that combined education with adventure. The skills learned and friendships forged during this time will have lasting impacts on the students. We look forward to more outdoor opportunities that will continue to enrich our students’ lives.

A special thank you to parents and guardians for their unwavering support throughout this journey. Their encouragement played an important role in enabling students to participate fully and benefit from this outdoor experience.

Throughout the trip, there was tons of fun such as the hike to Mt Kasigau and cooking with friends. My favourite time of the trip was the hotel, learning about Kenya's involvement in WW1 and free choice.Thank you year 9 teachers!
