11th October 2025
On Friday, October 3rd, a group of BGR students from Years 9 to 13 had the chance to attend the Hillcrest Young Leaders and Entrepreneurship Conference (HYLEC). This annual event gathers students from various schools to discuss leadership, creativity, and innovation. The 2025 theme, ‘Shaping the Future through Creativity and Innovation;’ encouraged participants to think critically about how young people can drive meaningful change in society.
The day started with an inspiring keynote speech from Dr. Hannah Githuki, a successful entrepreneur and motivational speaker. Dr. Githuki emphasized the need for a clear vision and discipline in pursuing goals. She introduced the acronym DARE—Dream, Aspire, Render, Execute—as a guide for staying focused and committed to success. Her message set a positive tone for a day filled with engaging ideas, teamwork, and enthusiasm.
A key moment of the conference was the business pitch competition, where students showcased their innovative ideas to a panel of judges. The pitches demonstrated originality, creativity, and a solid grasp of entrepreneurship, leaving the audience impressed. All BGR participants showed impressive confidence and skill, but one team stood out. INSol, consisting of Ipsa Bedi and Nancy Chishamiso, took first place in the junior category with their exceptional presentation and entrepreneurial vision. Their success reflects not just their hard work and dedication.
In addition to the competition, the conference provided students with valuable chances to connect with peers from other schools, share ideas, and develop their leadership skills. The event highlighted the importance of creativity in progress, urging young leaders to embrace new viewpoints and bold solutions to current challenges.
Attending HYLEC was an inspiring and fulfilling experience for our students. It reinforced that with vision, determination, and innovation, young people can shape a better future. We are very proud of our participants for representing BGR with their talent, passion, and commitment to excellence.
